Pinus thunbergii Kuromatsu (Japanese black pine)


ORIGIN AND SPREAD:
Asia, Europe 

CHARACTERISTICS:
big-sized conifer, long, thick, dark-green coloured needles, mighty trunk with platy, dark-grey bark. 

CARE:
grows well in any kind of soil, provided it is well drained; likes full sun and well ventilated places; fertilize abundantly using either chemical or organic fertilizers; preventive large spectrum insecticide treatments in spring/summer are advised. 

PRUNING:  
pluck the candles to an even length in spring; cut off the new ground shoots using sharpened hedge clippers in May/June; remove the old needles in November/December.
