Chamaeciparis obtusa Hinoki (false cypress)


ORIGIN AND SPREAD
: Asia, Japan. 

CHARACTERISTICS: evergreen conifer, dense foliage, scale-like, emerald green leaves, slow growth, fibrous, brown bark. 

CARE: grows well in any type of soil, provided it is well-drained; likes windy, cool places in summer, preferably in semi-shade; use slow release fertilizers; provide one treatment (Ziram) against fungal diseases in autumn as well as one in spring; one treatment with white oil is advised in winter.
 
PRUNING: either in June or in September/October, avoid pruning in the hottest months; use only well sharpened hedge clippers.
